The Righteous One takes note of the house of the wicked and brings the wicked to ruin. ~ Proverbs 21:12
There’s not a lot to share today. It was supposed to rain today, but it really didn’t – at least not much – so we’d planned a trip to the Post Office (the one who sent our delivery back) to talk to them and buy stamps and mail stuff. And it was time for laundry once again. Our large bin was overflowing because we’d put it off for a couple of weeks.
Things being the way they are around here, we really struggled to find both places! We ended up driving up and down the main drag several times before we finally spotted the tiny laundry sign! It turned out that the laundry was actually in the back, but still within a small strip mall, and the Post Office was right across the street, but since they didn’t have an American flag flying and it was a tiny building, we didn’t see them either.
While the clothes were washing, we drove across the street (it’s a 4-lane highway). The building has the traditional USPS sign above the door, and there were cubby mailboxes inside, but that’s where the similarity ended.
The guy there informed us that it’s his private business. We didn’t even know there was such a thing! He also told us that his phone is only for communicating with the main “real” post office and only when necessary, so he never answers it. And he never accepts general delivery mail. Which is why ours got sent back immediately. Just how does he make money? Does USPS pay him to run the place? Does he receive the same amount of payment as USPS does from the sale of stamps and postage? Also, is that why there’s no flag flying out front? Because he’s not required to because it’s a private business? It’s just a really weird scenario . . . .
The laundry was also small, but was decorated really cute! My favorite part was the duck feet suspended from the ceiling. Lol! You’ll see in the picture.
There’s also a market at the end of the mall that Blaine discovered during his walking around waiting time. They sell a bunch of Mexican stuff – seasonings, dried chilis, etc., but they also have fresh meat, and sell lunch in the form of tacos, etc. We’re looking forward to going in and picking something up during our stay here!
I saw a sign for a hairdresser across the parking lot as we were leaving, so I went in to talk to them. They know about Helix cuts, but none are certified, so I guess I’ll keep holding out. I contacted the girl in Alabama and her mom’s supposed to try to find out how I can access a list of all the stylists nationwide. Seems the owner sold the business and the new owner took down the website where I used to be able to access that information. Seems like a lot of work just for a haircut, but in order to understand, I guess you’d have to get one. 😊
By the time all our chores were accomplished, we were anxious to get outside, so we walked over to one of the short trails – the Romero Ruins Trail. It was a beautiful area, but we could see rain in the distance that looked as though it could be coming our way, so we hightailed it outta there and back home.
But the rain never arrived until just after we finished eating dinner, which was good, because Blaine fried wings outside again. And I baked those wonderful Jim n’ Nicks muffins (complete with the honey butter). Yum! A tasty dinner, but we certainly didn’t burn enough calories to justify eating it!
Another blessed day to live under the shelter of His wings!
