Sushi For Two 01/06/21

Despite my better judgment, I agreed to ride my bike again late this morning.  Why?  Because it’s Wednesday.  So?  Publix grocery chains recognize “Sushi Wednesdays”!  That means you can pick up a tray of sushi for just $5! (regularly $8.99)  It’s been a while since we’ve been able to enjoy that and today’s our last Wednesday here, so I told myself it’d be fine and worth it.  After all, it’s just a short ride.

Many of the homes we rode by butted right up against the trail.
We didn’t stop to take a picture, but this one had a small pool – – right alongside the trail!

A short ride that ended up being 8 miles round trip.  Ugh!!

But we got our sushi  – one crab and one salmon California roll, two fruit cups and Blaine grabbed a small bag of Cheez-its (which we didn’t need 😊).  Then we faced the dilemma of where to eat it.  We kind of expected there to be a table or bench at Publix, but there wasn’t.  Probably because of Covid.  ☹  Since we traveled through the woods and neighborhoods to get here, we knew there wasn’t any place close by.  However, behind Publix was a half-finished golfcart charging lot with two stacked 8x 8s.  So we sat there.  Practically perfect!

When you’re eating delicious sushi and fruit, does it really matter where you sit?

We forgot to take a picture, so here’s one from Publix.
What we bought is in the top left corner.

Back home, the bikes were parked and I told Blaine under no circumstances was I getting back on for several days, so we climbed in the Jeep and drove to the nearby 5-mile round-trip hiking trail.  I was a little slow on the up-take, but I got going at a normal pace eventually.  It was very quiet.  We only saw a couple of guys on bikes the entire time.

Most of the trail today was really wide. Nice!
Hey! A sign for that stuff we took pictures of the other day!
Isn’t this beautiful?!?
There were some places that were wetter than this –
puddled water that covered the trail – and we had to pick and tippy-toe our way around it.

The only time we heard anything was when two fighter jets flew over us!  They’re from the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, about a 2-hour drive from here.  We were considering a day trip, but then discovered that despite their very welcoming website about the museum and other attractions they offer, you can only visit if you’re part of the armed forces or with someone from the armed forces!  So disappointing!  Come on down, David!  It’s only a 4 ½ hour drive!  You’d do it for your favorite sister, wouldn’t you?  How about your only sister?  How about your big sister?  No?  Fine!

There they are! I can’t believe I managed to capture them – nearly center frame too!

There wasn’t much to see either, other than the fine nature our Father created for us.

Here are a couple of pictures of exciting critters we didn’t see.

During our walk, a friend texted and asked if we were watching what was going on at the Capitol, and I responded, “No.  We’re hiking in solitude.”

But it made us curious, so we looked it up and were so sad to see the chaos.  What is our country coming to?  Only God knows.  And we must remember that He’s always sovereign and nothing happens without His knowledge and consent.

We were planning on having burgers over an open fire for dinner, but we had to wait until after dark to eat because the wood we had was really green and didn’t want to burn.  Because Blaine excels at fire-building, he was eventually able to get it going, but it sure took a while!

He’d do so well on “Survivor”!
At least the fire building part. : )

Dinner was great!
