O’Leano State Park, High Springs, Florida
Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar (Babylonia) and settled there. ~ Genesis 11:1
Hey! Whadaya know! We moved east today too! 😊
Blaine went for a bike ride before we left today. I did not. I had other important business to attend to. Like blogging. Plus, I just didn’t feel like it. 😊
Our travel day contained a few arduous moments. There was the swerving 18-wheeler in front of us, which Blaine opted to stay behind for miles rather than trying to pass. Better to see what’s going on from well behind, than trying pass with little wiggle room if he decided to swerve to the left. Then there was a swerving car that almost caused a pile up. We think it decided to pass a truck hauling half a house and didn’t bother to look to see if anyone was in the left lane. That was a close call! Not so much for us, but for those in front of us. And then we encountered a car on an on-ramp that neither sped up nor fell behind us until the bitter end. That, too, was a bit scary. At the last minute, they fell back.
Silver Springs State Park, Ocala, Florida
It was 81⁰ when we arrived at Silver Springs! But the weatherman insists it won’t stay that way.
We visited here two years ago. It’s the place we paddled with manatees and saw rhesus monkeys, and lots of other up-close-and-personal wildlife on the clear Silver River. We’re very excited to meet their acquaintance again!
Shortly after we arrived, I had a visit from the Park’s welcoming committee! I was sitting at the picnic table reading and waiting for Blaine to see if we’d need to reposition the RV to get better satellite reception, when all of a sudden, I noticed movement out of the corner of my eye down by my feet. It was a tortoise! He came right up to my leg, and when I moved away, he followed me! Blaine came out at my call, and watched as the thing kept chasing me around the site. They move faster than we’ve been led to believe by Aesop! Who, by the way, lived in the mid-500s BC! Betcha woulda missed that in a trivia contest!
Anyway, I digress. This friendly reptile even let me pet its head – albeit very carefully! I was prepared to jump back if it made even the slightest movement, but it didn’t. I have no idea what it wanted, but apparently I didn’t have it, because after a few minutes, it finally ambled off across the street and into some brush.
I want to know how it scooted across gravel and up to me without me hearing or seeing it . . . My eyes and ears aren’t quite that bad.
Great way to begin our week-long stay!
