No Pizza Today 02/16/21

Highlands Hammock State Park, Sebring, Florida

After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision:  “Do not be afraid, Abram.  I am your shield, your very great reward.” ~ Genesis 15:1    The phrase “Don’t be afraid” is the most common command in all of scripture.  It occurs no less than 365 times in one form or another (like “Fear not”) and is almost always followed by “I” (God).  God also reminds Abram that He is his Protector and VERY Great Reward.  Much better than anything he could acquire from Pharaoh nor from the spoils of war.

Good morning, Sebring!

This is our third visit to Highlands Hammock.  The campground offers tight quarters, but the Park itself is one of our favorite places to visit.  It’s just kinda magical here with the live oaks, Spanish moss, palms, pines, orange trees (loaded with very sour fruit!) . . .  and of course there are flowers and critters of various types.  The Father is sooo diverse in the joys He gives us!

And Vincent’s Pizza is just up the road!  We’ve eaten at many pizza places on the road, and Vincent’s is our #1.  I can’t really say why, it just is.  The thin crust . . . the sauce . . . the ingredients . . . the gooey cheese . . . the friendly staff . . . the free dessert (yes, I said FREE!) . . .  I couldn’t talk Blaine into pizza twice in four days, so we have to wait until Thursday.  That’s two–whole–days away!  ☹

Our day began with driving into town to the laundromat.  Four large loads (and about four times poorer than if we’d done it at the Park) and just under three hours later, we were back home where we hurriedly put laundry away and grabbed a bite to eat.

There was biking and hiking to do!

Since it’s our third time here, we knew exactly where we wanted to go without consulting a map.  We also took much fewer pictures this time.  😊

Heading out
Lovely!
My mom’s former pastor’s last name is Beck. Wonder if they’re related somehow?
It doesn’t seem like these two are, which is kinda strange, don’t you think?
Heading back home for a minute. We forgot to pack water. Duh!!
Like we’ve not done this a million times . . .
That’s us! Look how many campers are around.
Not much privacy in this Park, but it’s been surprisingly quiet.
Off we go again – – this time, with water. : )
They have a 3 mile one-way loop road for cars and bikes, and along the way,
there are pull-offs where you can access trails. That’s what we did.
When we were here two years ago, this was a big field.
Now they’ve planted 102 orange trees because it used to be an orange grove.
Wonder if they’ll be edible? Wouldn’t that be great?!?!?
Does anyone remember this giant Live Oak trunk from when we were here before?
I forget how old it is, but at one time, they tried to keep it from falling over. Success!
But it has no branches . . .
This boardwalk trail was closed two years ago, but of course Blaine and I walked on it anyway. There really wasn’t any reason for it to be closed, other than a couple of boards were missing from an observation area.
And there’s the gator!
Pretty!
Isn’t this a great picture Blaine took?!?!?
He’s holding his hand well above the water and capturing that plus the reflection of the trees.
Very cool, dear!!
It’s sooo beautiful in here!
This is why it’s called the Catwalk. There’s no railing on the left side, and it’s narrow!
But yet, they closed the trail because a couple of boards were missing from an observation area???
We’ve moved on now.
We saw several wild orange trees bearing plenty of fruit,
but we learned on our first visit that the oranges are extremely sour.
Another large trunk they tried to save back in the day.
Blaine likes to walk in front of me when I’m wanting to take pictures.
I’m still trying to convince him that just because we took a picture of something at some point in the past four years, doesn’t mean we don’t have to take it again. : )
There was a section of the trail that was strewn with these flowers.
Beautiful!
This Live Oak is GI-NOR-MOUS!!
Gorgeous!!
This looked much lovelier in person.
So many trees had this fungus growing on them, it looked like a paintball course. : )
Isn’t it beautiful, though?!?

We returned about three hours later.  Excellent day!  Thank You, Lord!
