As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him. ~ Genesis 15:12 In the familiarity Abram had with the Lord, it is possible that God wanted to remind him Who He was dealing with, thus the ‘thick and dreadful darkness’. God is not just our Friend and Comforter; He is also to be feared. It is good for us to remind ourselves of this, as we often find ourselves so caught up in the joy of His Presence and Love, we forget to bow before Him in reverent, respectful fear (awe) because of Who He is.
Because we didn’t have to leave our site until 1pm, we took a couple of hours to ride around the Park one last time.
The actual moving part of our day didn’t start out too well. There were no problems getting ready, but as we approached the dump station, a guy in a pickup towing a trailer, raced down the adjoining road to get in ahead of us. Whatever. No biggie. He was obviously in more of a hurry than we were.
And then he started dumping – – all over the ground – – without his sewer hose being hooked up!! He turned it off, then did it Again!! He finally got it right, but oh! The stench!!! And once he was done, he just drove away, leaving us to clean up his mess! You just have to wonder about people sometimes!
Oh! And he wasn’t wearing gloves and just got in his truck and drove off! Ga—rosssssss!!!!!
There weren’t really any other issues during our 2 hour, 50-mile drive. Only 30 miles as the crow flies. Although at one point we almost took out two Sandhill Cranes. That almost certainly would’ve caused some issues. They were alongside the road and decided to take off just as we approached. Not sure they realized they were fighting for air space with a vehicle the size of a small mountain. Man, I wish I’d had my phone ready! It would’ve made a great picture! The flying birds. Not the splat on the windshield. 😊
Other hazards included a committee of vultures (Yep. That’s what they’re called.) who were enjoying a veritable pork feast right beside the road (aka a feral hog), and a slow-moving turtle who decided to cross to the other side for some reason.
I don’t know of you can tell, but there’s a smoky haze to the air this morning.

But there are no roads as the crow flies.
because it’s all blowing that direction.
This is a designated “dark” spot.
Some of you may recall that this is the place where a rattlesnake slithered right by our front door and over to a tent site. Or that when we left, it caused a dust storm that invaded every nook and cranny of our coach and I had to spend three fast, hard-working hours spring cleaning while Blaine tackled laundry at our next destination. If you do remember, did you remember that it was in 2018? Three years have flown by!
So very thankful that didn’t happen again! We did have a small amount of yellow dust to clean up following the three-mile drive on washboarded road, but certainly nothing that even comes close to last time.
But it wasn’t all that easy to get to our site. The road around the campground is full of deep holes! Somehow, Blaine managed to get over, or through, or around them all without scraping the front.
Once we were settled, we took a short stroll around the place to reacquaint ourselves. We love this Park, and are looking forward to our next five days here!
Well camouflaged!
