Home Alone 04/03/21

One day the older daughter said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth.  Let’s get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father.”  That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him.  He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.  The next day the older daughter said to the younger, “Last night I lay with my father.  Let’s get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him…”  Again he was not aware of it… So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father. ~ Genesis 19:31-36        I’ve never been drunk, but I can’t imagine how drunk a man would have to be, and still be able to perform well enough to sleep with his daughters!  Two nights in a row!  And not remember it!?!  And how the influence of living in a place like Sodom, has influenced the thoughts and actions of Lot and his daughters!  It’s one of the worst forms of depravity!   So very sad!  After everything we’ve read about Lot, would you be surprised to hear that he was considered a righteous man?  (Righteous means ‘right before God’.)  And yet, that’s exactly what Peter tells us in II Peter 2:7-8 “…if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)…”  What do we make of this, in the light of the obviously unrighteous decisions he made – offering his daughters as a sacrifice/substitute to the vile men of the town, hesitating to leave town, initially choosing his own path rather than the one chosen by God, allowing himself to be enticed into drunkenness, and then committing incest?  He’s human.  Just as we all are.  Our sins every bit as vile to the Lord as Lot’s were.  And yet, he was able to be counted as righteous.  What an incredibly forgiving Father we love and serve!

Blaine left me home alone today for about six hours.  Yay!

I know that sounds mean, but he offered, and I accepted.  Sometimes a girl just needs her space, ya know?

I did very little that’s note-worthy.  I texted my mom pictures of our Dish Network’s new “scene”.  Dish is our satellite provider, and if you turn to channel 199, you get to watch a scene that changes monthly.  We’ve had haunted houses for October, or Egyptian pyramids with camels walking by (and other things)… Last month it was Ireland with fishing boats sailing through a channel beside a castle and sheep.  Whatever the scene, the sun rises, the sun sets, and all kinds of things go on during the day and night.  Anyway.  This month, it’s a nice, serene Japanese setting.  Cherry blossoms, a large pagoda/temple, swans or paper boats on the lake, butterflies and hummingbirds, a snow-covered mountain.

The sun rises, the day goes by, the sun sets, fireflies come out, lighted lanterns go up in the darkness….

These are the lanterns, not fireflies. : )

And then you hear this boom, boom, boom sound, and you assume it’s someone banging one of those big gong drums they play in the pagoda and wait for the music to begin.  Instead, you get this . . .

We actually laughed out loud the first time!  We’ve never seen anything like that before!

I also completed four blog posts, watched two movies, and later, after he returned, I made homemade pizza for dinner, which was very yummy and loaded with tons of toppings!

Blaine actually earned his pizza.  He biked 34 miles today!  Amazing what he can accomplish without me!  Especially since the 17-mile return was into a strong headwind.

Well, look at that! I’ve taught him well! He’s taking pictures of information signs!

For my part, I should’ve just taken those pizza slices and attached them to my hips and gut. . . .

We both had wonderful days!
