But God came to Abimelech in a dream one night and said to him, “You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken; she is a married woman.” Now Abimelech had not gone near her, so he said, “Lord, will You destroy an innocent nation? Did he not say to me, ‘She is my sister’, and didn’t she also say, ‘He is my brother’? I have done this with a clear conscience and clean hands.” Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept you from sinning against Me. That is why I did not let you touch her. Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not return her, you may be sure that you and all yours will die.” ~ Genesis 20:2-7 Wow! Poor Abimelech! And how great is our God that He would come to him in a dream and explain things so clearly! What else do you see here? I see that God recognizes the heart (He knows that Abimelech was acting with a clear conscience). I see that when we sin, it’s not just against another or ourselves, but against God Himself (I have kept you from sinning against ME). I see that no matter what we may do or don’t do, God’s plan will not be thwarted (He’s saving Sarah for His own promised son). And I see, for the first time, that Abraham was a prophet. So what was a prophet in the Old Testament? Most of the time, a prophet was a man (or occasionally a woman) who spoke on God’s behalf, using God’s words. But in this case, and a few others according to the Hebrew Lexicon, it is applied to anyone who is afforded familiar communication with God, and to whom God has made known His will. Abraham knew God as a friend, and Abraham knew God’s will was to present Abraham and Sarah with a son. He was wrong to let Sarah go to Abimelech, and because he was a man of God, I have to assume he wrestled with the decision he made out of fear and faithlessness. Don’t we sometimes do the same?
It was a beautiful day today! But it did get a little warmer than we’re used to – into the 80’s. I sat glued to my computer screen (except for putting away the dishes Blaine washed), working on the St. Augustine blog post.
Blaine did all the work today. He washed dishes, went to the post office and bank, did the grocery shopping, washed the windows in the coach AND the Jeep . . . Makes me look like a lazy bum.
I didn’t even have to do much for dinner.
A cheater leftover meal of Kraft mac ‘n cheese, Easter ham, leftover Easter frozen veggies, and some fresh broccoli, all tossed together with some additional cheeses and made into a casserole. It was good, but hardly challenging.
At least I got out for a few minutes today.
We went for a decently long bike ride, and a little walking during the riding part, all around the Park today. They have quite a few trails you can walk or bike on. Very nice!
