The child (Isaac) grew . . and on the day Isaac was weaned (about 3 years old) Abraham held a great feast. But Sarah saw that the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham was mocking, and she said to Abraham, “Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for that slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac.” ~ Genesis 21:8-10 The custom at the time, and for many centuries to come (possibly still in Middle Eastern countries; I don’t know) was for the first-born son to inherit everything, except a small pittance doled out to the younger siblings. Sarah has thus far tolerated Ishmael’s presence these past 15-16 years (though barely I’d assume, given their history), but no more. And I’d hazard a guess that this wasn’t the first time Ishmael made fun of little Isaac – a practice not tolerated in olden days when respect was paramount. To this day, the enmity between the two nationalities (Islam/Muslims and Israel/Jews) is evident. Sadly, this is the ripple effect of poor decisions. We just don’t know what consequences there may be when we leave God out, or don’t trust Him and go off on our own.
Who say a knight has to wear armor, ride a horse and slay dragons?
Our initial ETA (just over 5 hours and 272 miles) was delayed by 3-4 minutes right after we pulled out of our site this morning, by gnats. Tiny, black, biting gnats that bug Blaine (no pun intended), but leave me with small welts that itch and burn. So as we were pulling out, I glanced up at our white ceiling above the dash and discovered several dozen hanging out, just waiting to attack me. I tried to do it myself, but even on tippy-toes, I’m too short to reach the ceiling. I would’ve had to stand on Blaine’s seat. Not a good idea when he’s trying to drive. 😊 Blaine pulled into the dump station, so he could swipe them up with a wet paper towel. That’s MY knight in shining armor!
We drove border to border today – from one end of Georgia to almost the other end, or if you prefer, from the edge of Florida to the edge of South Carolina, leaving the sand behind and entering into the land of red dirt.
It was a more challenging drive than Blaine had anticipated. There were lots of trucks out today, and the roads, although main routes, were pretty narrow. Plus there was more wind than the weather report indicated.
And there was a fire,
and a trio of trucks pulled over by the police. Yikes!
Still, the closer we got to our destination, the more beautiful our drive became! Azaleas were blooming everywhere! Large, luscious, brilliantly colored bushes! And white dogwoods, too!
Mistletoe State Park, Appling, Georgia
We arrived without incident.
It’s a gorgeous lake-side, woodsy Park! And after hearing the Ranger at check in comment what a nice site we had driving by all the sites, and, we were excited to get set up.
But there were issues.
While the site is more than ample for us, the lane they carved out makes it difficult to turn. And we needed to turn to get down to the level parking part of the site. I know I’m not making sense. Think of it like a tight turn on a roller coaster, as you go down one hill and up the other. 😊
And there’s no short-cutting, because they’ve built a wall on either side with lumber, and put metal braces on the joints.
Anyway, with a fair amount of jostling, Blaine got us in here. Right beside a lake, with trees surrounding us, and no one else in sight! It’s beautiful!
