When they got up the next morning, he said, “Send me on my way to my master.” But her brother and her mother replied, “Let the girl remain with us ten days or so; then you may go.” But he said to them, “Do not detain me, now that the LORD has granted success to my journey. Send me on my way so I may go to my master.” Then they said, “Let’s call the girl and ask her about it.” So they called Rebekah and asked her, “Will you go with this man?” “I will go,” she said. So they sent their sister Rebekah on her way, along with her nurse and Abraham’s servant and his men. . . . Then Rebekah and her maids got ready and mounted their camels and went back with the man. So the servant took Rebekah and left. ~ Genesis 24:54b-61 Although everyone had reached an agreement, when the moment of truth came the next day, the family was reluctant to let Rebekah go. Keep in mind that although Rebekah was an answer to prayer, and part of fulfilling God’s eternal plan, the truth was, her family would most likely not see her again. It had to be difficult for them once that reality hit. I imagine that ten days would’ve led into ten months and on and on it would go. Eliezer not only had a duty to finish his mission, he had work waiting for him back home, so he was anxious to be on his way. This custom of joining a son and daughter in marriage is so foreign to us, we can’t even conceive of such a thing, but it was normal for them. And required a great deal of consulting with God, as well as faith and trust. Do we have that kind of faith today?
The wind shifted yesterday.
It’s now blowing from the expressway, which means our motorhome sounds like we parked on the median. Neither of us slept well, and the constant noise continues into today.
We’ll endure it one more night, but we’ve decided to leave here a day early and head to Ashland, Nebraska in the morning. It promises to be much more restful there.
I spent today finishing up my self-induced, time-consuming “Special Editions” and trying desperately to get a few of our personal day posts completed.
Blaine escaped the noise and went on a long hike. And he took pictures!
Being as how this is our last day here (yes, for those of you who’ve requested our itinerary, we’re leaving a day early), it was now or never for the “best burger café in Iowa. They tasted much better than they look. 😊
As I was working on pictures from the other day, I realized that I was wrong. They don’t advertise the best burgers in Iowa, it’s the best burger café in Iowa. At any rate, the burgers were pretty good, if you enjoy greasy-spoon type grilled burgers – which we do. Blaine picked them up and we ate at home with a side of Arby’s curly fries I heated up in the air fryer. Yummy dinner!
