“O God of my father Abraham, God my father Isaac, O LORD, who said to me, ‘Go back to your country and your relatives, and I will make you prosper.’ I am unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness You have shown your servant. I had only my staff when I crossed this Jordan, but now I have become two groups. Save me, I pray, from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am afraid he will come and attack me, and also the mothers with their children. But You have said, ‘I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.’” ~ Genesis 32:9b-12 The prayer of Jacob. He reminds God of what He told Jacob to do. He acknowledges his unworthiness, and how God has chosen to bless him abundantly. And he acknowledges his great fear. And in the end, he reminds God of His covenant promise. It is good for us to remind God. Not for His benefit, but for ours. It is good to remind ourselves of our unworthiness, especially today when we’re taught that we deserve everything and more. It’s good to remind ourselves that everything we have – indeed every breath we take – comes from God. And it’s okay to admit our fears, for it shows our humanity and not our lack of faith. Faith is shown by our reaction to our fears, not our fears themselves.
We completed our spring cleaning today, and went for a walk around our new place, including walking in and around the casino. It seemed pretty empty, and it also seemed like most of the people in there maybe shouldn’t have been throwing their money away. We didn’t spend a dime. We wondered if they’d seen better times before Covid? Or is it the gamble from home on-line that seems to be doing them in?
And that’s another really short post! Unless you want to hear details of wiping and sweeping all the accumulated dirt in our home . . . .
