Then Shechem’s father Hamor went out to talk with Jacob. Now Jacob’s sons had come in from the fields as soon as they heard what had happened. They were filled with grief and fury, because Shechem had done a disgraceful thing against Israel by lying with Jacob’s daughter – a thing that should not be done. ~ Genesis 34:6-7 Dinah’s brothers took this as an affront, not only to Dinah, but to the entire clan. And whether or not Jacob realized it, or cared, this act has joined them with the Canaanites. And that too, is a ‘thing which ought not to be done’. Not particularly because they were of a different race (although that would prove to be a problem in different ways as well), but because they were idolators and had no interest in following the One True God exclusively, as the nation of Israel (Jacob and his family, and Jacob’s father and grandfather) was learning to do.
Whatever it was we did today, it didn’t warrant permission to have what we did for dinner! At least we got out and walked around the campground for a bit today. Maybe we were storing up energy for tomorrow . . . .
At least our oldest, Chris got out and hiked with his family. 😊
