Now Joseph gave these instructions to the steward of his house: “Fill the men’s sacks with as much food as they can carry, and put each man’s silver in the mouth of his sack. Then put my cup, the silver one, in the mouth of the youngest one’s sack, along with the silver for his grain.” And he did as Joseph said. ~ Genesis 44:1-2 What do you suppose Joseph is up to now? Do you wonder why he seems to be torturing his brothers? Is it revenge? Is it a test of their integrity? What do you think? And what of the brothers? After the previous incidents, wouldn’t you think they’d check their bags before they left? I suppose they could’ve been lulled into complacency after being invited to feast with the second in command of all Egypt. Do you ever let your guard down, even though you know you probably shouldn’t? We’re called to forgive, but Jesus also admonishes us to be “wise as serpents and innocent as doves” because we are “sheep amongst wolves” (Matthew 10:16).
Blaine went for a long bike ride by himself today on the Big River Trail. He saw up close evidence of beaver activity but no den anywhere. He got to stand beside the train on the bridge we were on the other day! What a rush! Even though it was traveling pretty slowly. He also took in more of those gorgeous yellow fields, and saw some that were sprinkled with pink ones. He came across a dead raccoon, too, but I’m not putting that picture in. It’s way more gross than the ones I’ve shared before. 😊
I did go out for a short walk around the campground while he was gone, and I feel like maybe I’m on the mend, but I should still be careful for a while and keep doing as the doctor prescribed. I want to be in good shape to rough house with the grandkids in a few days. Plus, I’m getting kinda used to Blaine waiting on me hand and foot . . . 😊
Tomorrow it’s on to the Nashville area!
