Know then, your two sons born to you in Egypt before I came to you here will be reckoned as mine; Ephraim and Manasseh will be mine, just as Reuben and Simeon are mine. Any children born to you after them will be yours; in the territory they inherit they will be reckoned under the names of their brothers. ~ Genesis 48:5-6 This claiming of Ephraim and Manasseh by Jacob is a very great honor – especially considering they’re half Egyptian. Did you notice that Jacob also switched the birth order? Very much like Jacob and his brother, Esau! In later Scripture, the name ‘Ephraim’ is sometimes used as an alternate name to the northern portion of the nation of Israel. (Judah is used for the southern half) These two brothers will claim two of the spots in the Twelve Tribes of Israel, taking the place of Joseph and Levi. The Levites will become priests and not require land of their own. You may wonder why there was no tribe of Joseph, especially since he was Jacob’s favorite. Instead, he was actually given a double portion of blessing because instead of one Tribe, he became two, through his sons (see Joshua 14:4).
Our new neighbors are interesting. We like interesting, but there’s a limit. Their small trailer is struggling to hold two adults and five – yes five – small children. I’m gonna guess ages seven down to newborn. That’s interesting in and of itself.
And then . . . .
This morning, the father came out in a pair of underwear with a white t-shirt tucked into them. And then a short while later it got better . . .
He came to the door naked as a jaybird! Fortunately, I was busy preparing a post. Unfortunately for Blaine, he received the full-frontal view. Good grief!
It’s time to ride on outta here! Literally . . . .
There are miles of places you can bike to and tour around. Today, we mostly biked over to the dock/beach area, and along some of the State Park hike/bike trails through the woods. These trails aren’t paved, but instead are hard-packed sand and covered with fallen pine needles for the most part, with grass thrown in to make the ride a bit bumpy in places. That’s why some of my pictures are blurry. 😊
We are absolutely fascinated with the concrete ships parked off the shore! And we’re very excited to paddle our kayak out there one day! We’re here until the 19th, so there’s time. I’ve included pictures of the brochure a Park Ranger gave me when I asked about them.
We had a wonderful ride, but were glad we finished before noon because it became stinkin’ hot again today! And humid to boot! It seems like it’ll remain that way for the remainder of our visit – – and beyond.
Wanna know why I’m behind now? My afternoon of blog prep was interrupted by an hours long investigation into finding a new dentist. Ours retired, so we were forced to go in search of. What we learned was that not every dentist takes our insurance. In frustration, I finally texted a friend looking for a referral. Why I didn’t start with that, I’ll never know. I re-made our Fall appointments and happened to mention that we found them on referral. The girl asked who and I told her. Now my friend will receive two Target gift cards for the referral of two people! How great is that?!? Sometimes it pays – literally – to be our friends!
Here’s a few pictures we received from our kiddos today!
