Noah did everything just as God commanded him. ~ Genesis 6:22
It’s moving day, and we’re headed for another beach along the Panhandle – St. George Island. It’s a barrier island south of Apalachicola. Took us about 2 ½ hours to go 118 miles.
Part of our drive took us through the town of Mexico Beach. Do you remember them from Hurricane Michael in October, 2018? Remember how devastated their town was?
Michael was a category five hurricane when it made landfall on Mexico Beach. Maximum sustained winds were just under 160 miles per hour and the storm surge wiped away the businesses and homes of the 1,200 people who lived here. Waves were as high as 14 feet. At least 800 structures were destroyed. Here’s a before and after picture, plus a couple of others.
It’s looking better, but there was mile after mile of striped and broken trees just before we crossed into town.
Some homes seem to be rebuilt, but there were still some that were under repair, or looked abandoned.

We had to move our clocks ahead as we entered Eastern Standard Time today. It’s been quite a while since we’ve been there!
Once we entered the State Park, we still had four miles to go to get to the 60 site campground. It’s very quiet and isolated here. Should be a good week, if we can get the sun to shine! It’s been five days since we’ve seen any sun. Who decided Florida should be dubbed the ‘sunshine state’ anyway?
Oh. And we have ants again. I discovered them when I went into the bathroom to get ready for bed tonight. I don’t want to talk about it . . . . . . Heavy sigh . . . . .
