Happy Father’s Day! 06/21/20

Portal RV Resort, Moab, Utah

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.  He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.  ~ Matthew 5:44-45

Why is it that mothers get all the accolades, while fathers tend to just receive token appreciation on their day?  I can share that, from my perspective, the things I learned from my father, are not things I’d care to share with the class.

Both my grandfathers, however, doted on me in their own quiet way.  And my father-in-law has always been a wonderful, loving, godly and caring man towards me.  And then there’s the father of my children, who’s always been an intelligent, wise, loving, playful, caring father, and godly as well.

Most important in my life, and all I really need, is my Heavenly Father.  Who loves unconditionally, and gives good things to his children, even before they know they need them.  Because of His love for me, and my love for Him, everything I could ever ask or imagine comes from Him.  Every good and perfect gift.  The list of gifts is endless, but includes a personal relationship with Him, food, shelter, five senses, the sun, moon and stars, the intricate way all created things (including our bodies) work together perfectly, health, the ability to give and receive love, all of creation, and sooo much more – everything actually – even the very breath I breathe.  Thank You, my Father!

We covered 44 ½ total miles of Jeep road today (Blaine’s choice since it’s Father’s Day. 😊)  – – Lockhart Road and then the Chicken Corner Road spur – and back again.

As I was waiting for Blaine to get ready to leave, I made myself an obstacle course inside the coach, donned my new boots and set to work testing them out.  I’ve always had a hard time finding shoes that fit me properly, so the fact that I’d snatched these up so quickly had me a little nervous.  But they performed well, and 15-minutes later, we were good to go.

Pretty rudimentary, but it worked. : )

And I’m telling you right now, after the overwhelming number of pictures we’ve been taking lately, we didn’t take as many today.  Well.  That, and the number of splattered gnats on the windshield.  Those blasted things are literally every where!  Taking pictures through the window with bugs attached to it, makes spots on the pictures and takes me extra time to try to eliminate as many as possible. And that’s definitely not how I enjoy spending my creative time. 😊

Enjoy the ride!  When you have a Jeep, there are places you can go, and things you can see that would never happen in a car or hiking.  Our country is a wonder at every turn!

On the way to today’s adventure!
Believe it or not, that’s the Colorado River.
Switchbacks!
Same as the ones you saw in the previou picture.
Only now, you can tell better how narrow the road is!
We let these guys pass us a while back. Looks like they’re taking the more challenging road.
They can do that because their Jeeps are full of expensive modifications. Ours is still stock from the factory.
We thought they were parked in the middle of the road,
but it turned out, there was room to go around.
However, since they were returning, we waited on them to go ahead.
We’ve learned that people driving these rentals go a lot faster than we’re comfortable with. : )
Beautiful!
This was a terrific overlook stop!
Time to get back on the road.
I Googled and discovered that the blue gray stuff we caught glimpses of today,
are actually called Potash Evaporation Pools.
I’m not talking about those today though.
We’ll cover it another time. They’re very interesting though!
Gives you something to look forward to. . . . lol!
We’re always amazed whenever we see a rock balancing like that!
I ride like that a lot. lol It’s not really because I’m scared.
It’s because it helps keep me from bouncing around so much. : )
That tall rock reminded us of the Prudential Rock. : )
Good thing someone stuck that log in the road here!
It’s just a bit erroded. . .
Just a little bumpy here . . .
We passed this place, but it didn’t look like anyone’s there right now.
Probably because of COVID.
A couple of four-wheelers decided it would be fun to stir up dust. : )
We went off road to the top of this hill for a more elevated view.
Caught Blaine studying his newly purchased gigantic map.
Worth every penny we paid for it!
Back on the road.
Along the way, we made a quick stop to check out the Colorado River!
It looks like a slow, meandering river from here, but we all know what it’s capable of!
Look at that weird cloud formation!!
We’re ready to take on Chicken Corners!
Love the uniqueness of this sign!
Another short stop to look around. : )
Looks like night is falling in this picture. lol!
More views of the lovely Colorado!
Did you happen to notice the beginnings of a new arch over there?
This is as close as we ever got to it. : (
Looking out from the driver’s seat, you can sort of tell why they call this road Chicken Corners!
And yes. He came to a complete stop before he took it. : )
The Colorado seemed to be everywhere we looked on this road.
Are you starting to see where this road got its name?
We’re back down almost to the level of the river now.
It may appear to be so, but that’s not a boat in the water.
It’s a rock.
Uh oh. Traffic jam.
Pretty funny we all ended up in the same place at the same time,
since we hardly saw anyone today. : )
How in the world this low-riding car made it on this road is a mystery. Crazy!
That is one deep canyon close to the road!
We’ve returned to the “main road” and are headed for home.
You can tell, because it’s wider and smoother. : )
We stopped roadside to check this odd thing out.
There’s no sign or anything to tell you what it is, or was supposed to be, or why someone built it.
Pretty unique!
Just look at the intricate stonework they did.
Back at home, we noticed we picked up some dirt along the way today. : )

Even though it’s Father’s Day, Blaine decided he wanted to make his own meals today.  (Is that some kind of subtle message?)  Pancakes and bacon for breakfast, and rib-eyes for dinner.  With meals like that, there was no need for lunch today!  We just packed some fruit and trail mix to get us through.

Dinner came from Ye Old Geezer Meat Market, and was delicious!  Fresh cut while we waited yesterday! Along with homemade potato salad that I made, made a great Father’s Day dinner!

He looks happy, doesn’t he? : )
Yet another dinner picture that was taken after dinner was already in progress.
Kinda gross. Sorry. : (
