More Holes In Rocks 06/22/20

Portal RV Resort, Moab, Utah

The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man’s inmost parts.  ~ Proverbs 26:22

Due to the heat, we made it a short day today.  In the Park by 7:30am, and back home in time for lunch.  And since I’m writing this six days after the fact, I have no idea how we spent the remainder of our day.  I’ve often wondered how they possibly expect people in the witness box to remember events years ago, when I can’t even remember yesterday without pictures to help me.

We explored the “Windows” section of Arches National Park today, among other things, and by the time we were done, we’d covered this National Park, except for the Devil’s Garden Trail, which we’ll do one day next week when it’s supposed to be much cooler.  By much, I mean 10-15⁰.  Hey. Every little bit counts around here!

Today’s explorations, included only very short walks.  Thank goodness!

Shall we begin?

It’s only 7:30 and parking spaces are at a premium!
The Park provides very informative signs for people.
If they take the time to read them. . .
We’ve decided to save Double Arch for last.
That’s Turret Arch.
It’s the little hole on the left that gives it it’s name.
An Arch with a gun turret, get it? : )
Ha! He looks like he’s been put in time out! : )
I have no idea what’s really going on in this picture. . .
Looking back towards the parking lot.
That’s also the area where the Double Arch can be found.
Did you notice Blaine?
Better get used to looking for him today,
you’re gonna need that observational skill in a bit. : )
You can see the turret window, plus two additional arches in this picture,
the smaller one is actually the North Arch that’s across the way.
That thing with the seemingly glowing head is me. : )
We’re leaving Turret to check out North and South.
A couple more looks behind us along the way.
Hey!
Where’d the arch disappear to???
It’s there. It’s just camouflaged. : )
This is the South Arch.
Did you find him this time?
A bunny!
He was bouncing around under the South Arch.
We followed a trail around the other side in order to get to the North Arch.
The back side of the South Arch.
He’s inside the South Arch.
Finally! We can see both North and South Arches at the same time.
On our way to completing the loop.
This part was a little tricky, but not bad.
We’ve gone full circle and are now viewing the North Arch.
We’ve moved on.
Some science to entertain you. : )
There’s Double Arch!
These wanna-bes are off to the right hand side.
I think the one on the left looks like a keyhole.
Wow! That’s something to see!!
This is a picture of the girl with the tatoos. She’s almost completely covered! Even her fingers!
And it just seemed like abstract art – nothing distinguishable.
I don’t get it.
Blaine wandered in and took some pictures, while I waited in the shade on a rock,
away from most of the people. : )
That’s me, where the red arrow is pointing. : )

Let’s play “Where’s Blaine”!  Remember the “Where’s Waldo” books from the 80’s?  There were tons of people at Double Arch, and while I sat and waited for Blaine to go explore and take pictures, I decided I needed a distraction.  The following pictures may look identical, but Blaine is in a different spot in each one.  Can you find him?  Have fun! 😊

Time to go find more scenery to look at.
Adding Blaine for perspective.
We want to go see that hole over there.
Well, you can’t see it in the picture, but it’s there. Trust me.
There’s a path we followed, but not an “official” trail.
That’s it.
Time to get back on trail now.
Balanced Rock is just off the main road through the Park. It’s also heavily attended.
There’s a short trail that takes you all the way around it.
Hurry and take the picture already! This thing’s heavier than it looks!!
Driving back towards the Park exit, we made a couple of short roadside stops.

Our last hike was supposed to be a short, flat 2-miler round trip that would take us to see Park Avenue and back.  We had good intentions, but the sun was relentless, and we wisely turned around before we got too far along.  However, we didn’t miss out on anything except heat exhaustion, because there’s a pull off where you can see it just by taking a few dozen steps.  😊

We turned around right about here.
The start of a new canyon.
This one’s called Sheep Rock.
It really does look like a sheep, doesn’t it? : )
One with really long legs. : )
The “cheater” trail. After we parked at the pull-off. : )
It’s almost impossible to take a picture that shows this place.
It really does look like a row of high rise buildings.
Those guys down there are on the trail we started out at the other end.
They were discussing how hot they were when the crawled up out of there.
Back to the Jeep.
See how close it is? : )
Our final stop for today.
A pull-off just before we left the Park.
Does it look like the picture on the information board?
We watched a hawk glide around for a bit.

Tomorrow we venture into Utah National Park #5!
