Road to Adventure

Today they called for rain starting late morning.  It was gracious enough to wait until the afternoon.  We left home about 8:30am to get some hiking in, taking the Shelburne Basin Trail behind the campground.  It was a nice trail!  About 1 ½ miles one way to a ‘swimming hole’.  It’s hard to tell from the picture, but it was quite deep and very clear. There were actually a couple holes you could swim in, but (once again) I checked – – brrrrrr!  It might feel good if it was 90, but maybe not even then as there wasn’t any sun.  Pretty neat though!

In the middle of the trail. You can’t tell, but it was dessert plate sized!

Still heading toward the pool

We made it!

We tried several times – both before and after lunch – to find a trail recommended by our camp hostess.  We couldn’t find the trailhead, but we DID find a place to off-road the Jeep!  We had no idea where we were going, but it turned out to be a single lane logging road as we discovered when we came upon a large Catapillar knocking down trees!  YIKES!  Then when we turned around, heading for us was a semi with a tree-hauler trailer!  Double YIKES!!  We were able to pull off the road and wait for him to pass and then skedaddled outta there!

Our first clue as to where we actually were

It was still pretty fun!  We even got to cross a stream.  : ) BTW – there weren’t any signs telling us not to be there.  And we never found the trail we were looking for.

We got back not too long before the rain started.  Blaine made reservations for our next stop in Maine and I baked cookies to freeze for us. Unfortunately, they didn’t turn out quite like we were expecting . . . .

Before we retired, I went through all my recipes and typed them up.  They were all things we’d tried and liked over the years (just over 400 of them!).  I pulled up the Nestle’s Toll House and baked away.  The first batch told me there was something wrong, but it was too late to fix it!  Too much flour!  I had a misprint in the recipe!  They’re still edible, but nothing like they should be!

Needless to say, I am NOT a Happy Camper right now!!  ☹

So, to make me feel better, I’m adding a little ‘cutie pie’.  You can never go wrong with that!

Our 13 month-old granddaughter, Harper
