Blow Out!    2/23/18

Highlands Hammock State Park, Sebring, Florida

How nice it is to be able to get up in the morning and spontaneously decide to go to IHOP for breakfast!  I’d been craving French toast for a while now, so this morning I went and bought – – – get this – – – a ‘senior breakfast’.  Man!  Does that make me feel old!

I make French toast.  In fact, it’s actually pretty good.  At least as good as IHOPs.  But I don’t have the freezer space anymore to store the Italian bread I use to make it.  And as I mentioned in a previous blog; I can’t throw food away.  However, it would have been much, much cheaper to buy a loaf of bread (even at full price) and throw most of it away, than to go to IHOP!  But then I’d be forced to deal with my guilt over wasting food . . . .

Blaine’s combo was good too, one of each:  pancake, egg, ham, sausage and bacon, but I think he would’ve liked more to eat.

Here’s a couple of pictures of where we’re currently sitting.  Not a good enough picture to warrant changing the blog header, but better (now that the neighbors left) than any we’ve had for a while.

My bike inner tube sprung a leak yesterday, so Blaine filled it up and it held perfectly!  Until today when we awoke to a flat.  This time, when he tried to fill it, it burst!  Oh my!!! Was it loud!!!  Ouch!

So we hoofed it today.  Which at least adds to our hiking miles.  😊

Today, we walked down the loop road to the only trail off the loop we haven’t been on yet.  The Ancient Hammock Trail.

Remnants of a much earlier prescribed fire

These things fascinate us!
Look how he mimics the stripes in the tree!

I really does look ancient!

Sweet Gum fruit. Doesn’t look very fruity to me….

Sweet Gum leaf
Looks a little like a maple.

How mighty the wind is!

This one was originally on the side of the stump.
Look how his body looks like the side of the stump, but his head is the same color as the edge of the top!

Then we checked out the Fern trail again on the way back.

Are you getting tired of these things yet?

Here’s a bigger one!
Oh! It’s actually an alligator! Just off the boardwalk and about 6′ long!

We were hot!  Time to stop in for the CCC movie.  It was interesting, but mostly, it was cool!  It still smells of smoke in there, though . . . .
