A Time Of Testing   3/21/18

Meaher State Park, Spanish Fort, Alabama

Blaine suffered a time of testing today.  Right off the bat this morning, he was forced to admit defeat (after 4 days of trying) to secure a place for us in Florida during a portion of  March of next year.  Yes, you have to make the reservations exactly 11 months prior and you have to sit with your finger on the button and hit it at exactly 8am.  If you’re lucky, you get in a fraction of a second before others all over America/the World, doing the exact same thing.  It’s so crazy!!

Then he was forced to wash dishes because he realized I was lost in the March 19th blog post.

We packed up and left, but soon after, water came in behind his seat once again.  He’d seen it on the slide, but it was too far away to do anything about it and didn’t seem like very much.  Well, you know how water is – “how can such a little cup make such a mess!”  Yep.  Like that.

As we were hooking up the Jeep, one of the straps that holds one of the hooks in place, broke.  Electrical tape to the rescue!

Now we’re crossing the very long bridge from our campground into Mobile to head towards New Orleans, and we keep hearing car horns.  Turned out, somehow, one of our basement doors was open!  He had to pull off at the next exit, which wasn’t for a while, close and lock it again, check them all again and get back on the road.  Unfortunately, it wasn’t that simple.  Due to the turning radius of the coach and Jeep, we had to go back to the campground to turn around and go back over the bridge again – this time without incident.

And then there was the wind.  For three hours, he had to wrestle the coach onto the road.  He said it was the worst he’s ever had it.  Most of the drive was a narrow road with quite a bit of traffic.  We could see semis noticeably struggling as well.

There was one more thing that happened, but since I didn’t jot it down, now that it’s 7 days later that I’m writing this, I just can’t remember.  But there was definitely something.

All these little tests, and he kept his cool through it all.  This is why we’ve been so happily married for so long.  And one of the reasons God continues to bless him. 😊

And bless me because of him.  I tend to have a short fuse when I’m frustrated.  I don’t mean anything by it, it’s just a way for me to vent, and then it’s out of my system.  I try very hard to hide my frustrating moments from Blaine, because he just doesn’t seem to have many and I know it upsets him.  Nowadays, I don’t have friends to vent to and thus spare him and after a while, it builds up and off I go.

Today I failed my time of testing.  I was tired, we arrived rather late for a travel day, we were totally out of necessary clothing and I knew I had to do laundry TODAY.  The bin was overflowing.  I know you “June Cleavers” out there are wondering why I waited so long.  Financial reasons.  Every place we stay charges an average of $2/load each – for both the washers and dryers.  This Park, for some unknown reason, is free!

So anyway, we arrive, get set up and I took a walk to see if the washers were available.  I couldn’t find the bath/laundry house.  Turned out to be much, much further than the map would indicate.  I drove to it, only to find the sole working machine occupied.  Urgh!  I drove to the second one and the story was the same here.  Back home I go.  Wait a few minutes, and I returned.  The first is still occupied, the second now available, but still, I only have one washer to work with, and lots of laundry.  I was frustrated.  I vented when I got home.  Poor Blaine didn’t understand.  I wasn’t angry.  I was just releasing frustration.  Anyway, the laundry got done.  Eventually.  And we’re both happy campers once again! 😊

Here’s a recap of today’s journey:

Theres’ a specific reason I took this picture.
Take a look at the next one! : )

End of the road!

Crossing the Bay, there were several bridges across the water.

There’s New Orleans!
We haven’t been near too many large cities in the coach.

Exciting for me.
Difficult for Blaine . . .

Especially as traffic picked up!

A very quick glimpse of the Superdome.

This view is a little better, but now there’s window glare.

I don’t know how he does it!
We had to cross that bridge in the background.

Here we go!

Silly me! I was waiting to get a good picture, but I forgot the windshield screen covers part of the windshield. Missed the top of the bridge! : )

Crossing the Mississippi River.

Wow! It’s really wide!

Driving through the State Park to the campground area.

Our new yard!

Blaine came with me to pick up the final load.
Isn’t he sweet?

I have hiking miles, but I don’t remember where we walked because there are no pictures.  I’m thinking it was around our new campground – after I finished the laundry.

Short post today!  All I have are travel pictures.  Makes up for the other day . . .  😊

TOTAL HIKING MILES:  1.5
