Searching For Water 11/18/20

Desoto State Park, Fort Payne, Alabama

Then God said, “Let Us (the Trinity) make man in Our image, in Our likeness.”  ~ Genesis 1:26

We spent 4 ½ hours today in search of waterfalls.  We found several, as well as some other interesting places.  Some on the trails, some we drove to.  And all within the State Park boundary.

And that’s all I have to say about that.  Mostly because it’s now a week later as I write this, and I can’t remember anything quippy to say.  Plus, I’m kinda in a hurry to get caught up.

Enjoy the pictures!

Some history on DeSoto and DeSoto Falls
This house was right beside the path to the waterfall.
Top view of the falls.
As nice as this was, I’ll be it was much more impressive before they put in the dam.
Coming down these stairs, they just looked like regular concrete. It wasn’t until we were about to head back up that we saw the beautiful design and quote by John Muir! If you begin at the top, it looks like a river flowing on the left side, and then widening into a waterfall.
“Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.”
Oh boy! That doesn’t look good at all!
Hopefully no one was in it when it went over the DeSoto Falls!
A view of the water fall from the bottom.
This is as close as you can get without zooming in for a picture.
Blaine found the rest of the canoe. . .
We didn’t know there was a cave here!
Now we have to go in search of.
This leaf reminded me of a butterfly. I don’t know why. : )
Here’s the cave! We noticed a couple of former fire pits,
and if you look at the walls, you can see the soot all over the place.
Probably similiar to what they ended up with at Lookout Mountain Cave.
Remember? From the trains?
Top views of the falls.
We sat here for lunch. No view of the water, but we could hear it far below. : )
Driving on, we came to this little church.
Unfortunately it was closed and you couldn’t see in the windows because they were double paned. : (
It’s built right into this huge rock!
How do they manage to keep the roof from leaking?!?
There was no information on who this person is/was.
A short boardwalk walk to the next waterfall on our list for today.
Azalea Cascade
I imagine it has a lot more water in the Spring. : )
This short hike began at a water treatment plant. Pee-Yew!!!
Indian Falls
So the Park has these cabins you can rent.
They’re pretty good sized and spaced a good bit apart. . .
. . . and this sits in between two of them.
You don’t supposed they is their bathroom, do you? Hmmm . . . .
We’ve walked down to the river.
Heading back to the Jeep.
Part of this trail could use some maintenance.
Ya know, I’ve seen these things in artificial flower sales places and always thought they were just from a creative mind. I had no idea they were a real plant! Its an American Beautyberry.

Hiking to one more waterfall before we end our day.
There’s sure not much here. It’s right by the lodge.
This is the lodge.
They have a nice common patio.
I’ll bet those trees were something to see a few weeks ago!
Nice decorations!
