Where The Deer And The Antelope Don’t Play    9/28/18

Maumee Bay State Park, Oregon, Ohio

The Sovereign LORD is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to tread on the heights.  Habakkuk  3:19

All week, everywhere we’ve gone, we’ve seen deer.  Today, we walked the 2.5 mile perimeter of the Park, and the only thing we saw was one smallish snake, and a couple of robins.

But before we ventured out, I spent more time “computer organizing”, and now that I know what the birthday dinner menu is, I also planned that.  It takes some thought and more intensive planning than usual, because I’m not cooking at home, so we have to take everything with us.  But I think my new daughter-in-law is worth it.  😊

So here we go.  Into today’s adventure.

There’s something vine-y taking over the trees here.
It kinda looks like grape vines. We don’t know what it is.

This tree is dead, but look how pretty it still is!

Is it a wigwam or a teepee?
Or something else entirely . . .

Once we returned from our fairly uneventful walk, we changed clothes and headed into Toledo, where we did a short walk around and killed some time before our chosen restaurant opened up.

Another freighter.
It’s part of the Maritime Museum. We’ve been to enough of those.
So have you. : )

“The emergency dual steering wheel of the Frank E. Toplin, which is highlighted here, is seen in place in this photo from 1924.”

This is the actual wheel, but you can’t spin it.
Where’s the fun in that??

Those anchor chains are REALLY heavy!!
I tried the white one, too, but only got up one and a half.
Plus, I’m just too short. : )

Oh no! . . . _____________
You fill in the caption this time! : )

Downtown Toledo

I’m almost positive we saw this ship passing our campground when we were in Sault St. Marie.
But the one we saw with this name was in much better condition.
Hmmm . . . .

We accidently discovered this when we were walking around.
Isn’t that something?!?!?
It’s the underneath of the bridge with the “triangle top”

We didn’t walk downtown, instead, they have a river walk.

Look how loaded this crab apple tree is!
What do you do with crab apples, anywhere.

This unusual building is Owens Corning

This is another section of the Owens-Corning campus.

Part of Owens-Corning
I don’t know what it is.

This is the bridge

Remember Jamie Farr?
Corporal Klinger?
The guy who wore dresses on M.A.S.H?
Klinger hailed from Toledo.
We didn’t walk that far . . .

The Blue Herons here are much more tame that other places we’ve been, but this one still took off as soon as Blaine took his picture.
At least he was willing to pose for a few seconds.

We just really liked the look of this bridge.

Dinner was excellent, although I didn’t much care for the breading on the walleye. I know they said beer-batter, but I was expecting crunchy, and it was not.  I removed most of it and just ate the fish, which was healthier and really yummy.

Our restaurant is in here.
There are at least three restaurants in here.

This is where we had dinner tonight. Well, technically, it was still afternoon.

The entrance to the Maumee Bay Brewing Company

This is their brewery. Right here next to the seating area. Kinda cool – even though we don’t drink beer.

But we ate the beer cheese soup!
And it was delicious!

We both ordered the same meal. Easier on the waitress that way. : )

We ran across this looking for the “historic lobby”.
We found a lobby, but it didn’t look very historic to us, so we didn’t take any pictures.

No sunset tonight.  Too bad, since it’s our last night here.  ☹
